OHventurer Of The Week: Ryan Pratt & Ally Taulbee

The OHventurer of the Week is a recurring feature where we highlight true OHventurers from across Ohio. They have awesome jobs that take them all over Ohio (and beyond) and feed their thirst for adventure in their off-hours. Adventure never stops for the folks featured in this series.

For a different spin on the OHventurer Of The Week, we are featuring an adventurous couple, Ryan Pratt and Ally Taulbee.

Hometown: Massillon, OH
Current Town: Columbus, OH
Twitter: @RyanPratt and @AllyTaulbee

While most couples stick to the typical “dinner and a movie,” Ryan Pratt and Ally Taulbee go above and beyond that by constantly exploring the great outdoors of Ohio and pursing an active lifestyle. They each have a strong zest for life and, when combined, makes them the ultimate adventurous couple. Ryan and Ally have gone hiking at various locations, including Hocking Hills in Logan, Glen Helen Nature Preserve in Yellow Springs, and Prairie Oaks Metro Park in Hilliard. They also are big fans of anything in or around the water and have gone kayaking on the Tuscarawas River in Northeast Ohio, Mohican River in Loudonville, and Darby Creek in Galloway. In addition, they enjoy waterskiing, jet skiing and boating on Lake Cable and Buckeye Lake in Millersport.

Ryan and Ally met while attending grade school and high school together in Massillon, but didn’t start dating until they reconnected in Columbus, having both attended college at The Ohio State University. The two have been together now for about a year and a half, and enjoy not only outdoor adventures, but also Chipotle, Apple “iStuff”, and their dogs Cali and Barley. Even with their very busy lives and ambitious careers, the two stay active!

A self-proclaimed “Renaissance Man,” Ryan wears a number of different hats: he is a Marketing Manager at MBA Focus, VP of Marketing and a Minority Partner at ListAfterList, the Social Marketing Consultant at Resistance Wear, and a National Movie Critic for Examiner. His involvement with Resistance Wear (pictured above) came when his brother-in-law founded and created a men's weight vest in the mid-1990s. The weight vest has been sold to a number of professional sports organizations and was only recently available to the public at large. Ryan was hired to help build an online presence and implement Web 2.0 marketing campaigns.

Ryan said he has always been an outdoorsman, having lived on water 24 out of the 27 years of his life. “I was lucky enough to travel quite a bit as child, which resulted in even more travelling as an adult,” Ryan said. “I have hiked, camped, boated, kayaked, sailed, yachted, snorkeled and scuba dived in 2 oceans, 7 rivers, 3 Great Lakes, 2 Finger Lakes, and countless other bodies of water!” Consequently, he frequently goes sailing, jet skiing, wake boarding, and the like

Ally is in the newest batch of OSU alumni and recently began her job as an Executive Team Lead (ETL) at Target. For her five years at Ohio State, Ally was a cheerleader for both the football and basketball teams (pictured above). In addition to cheering at the Buckeyes games, Ally said that she enjoyed the experiences that came with being a cheerleader at the Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, NCAA Basketball Tournament, Big 10s, and every single game, event and function in Columbus.

Together, Ryan and Ally travel all over the country (places like Nut Ridge in Upstate New York and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Florida) but they love living in a state where they are able to fully experience all 4 seasons and being so close to so many different bodies of water and topographies. On rainy nights, the pair can often be spotted at The Movie Tavern in Hilliard, which is a movie theatre with a full service bar and kitchen inside, and is perfect for Ryan's involvement as a national movie critic.

“Ally and I love laying on the couch and sleeping in as much as anyone, but you HAVE TO get off the couch and get out of bed,” Ryan said. “There is so much to experience right outside your home, your town, and your comfort zone.”
