Hola. Me llamo Michael, gentleman adventurer and creator of this lil' project known as OHventures.

I created OHventures (I’m a big fan of portmanteaus) to showcase to readers all the kick-ass assets Ohio has to offer. In other words, my state is better than your state and here’s why. Have something you would like for me to review or highlight? Get in contact with me!

My affinity for all things Ohio and adventure derives from my never-ending quest to conquer everything on my bucket list, and perhaps my bounty of energy that makes it nearly impossible for me to sit still. I thirst for excitement and thrills.

I grew up in Hubbard, a small city near Youngstown. My hometown boasts of 5 golf courses and a dozen bars catering to just 8,000 residents. A bit excessive, but it makes for a fun place!

Time to humble-brag a bit.

I flew the coop and moved to Columbus to attend THE Ohio State University form 2003-2007. My major was Communication and Public Affairs Journalism with a minor in Professional Writing.

In addition to this coursework, my dork status was secured by wearing many different hats: intern at the Ohio State Bar Association, Teaching Assistant for Communication 221: News Editing and Reporting, Communications Technology Scholar, copyeditor and reporter for the student newspaper (The Lantern), delegate for Undergraduate Student Government, and a proud brother of the Alpha Sigma Chapter of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

Since college, I worked in a number of positions in Columbus and, after 10 years in the state capital, moved back to Northeast Ohio for work endeavors. You can bore yourself more with my resume on LinkedIn!

I also am a freelance writer for a number of publications, including the Ohio Division of Tourism’s official blog, DiscoverOhio.

I proudly received the 2016 Greater Akron Chamber "30 For The Future" (30 Under 40) Award, the 2017 OSU Alumni Association "Rising Buckeye" Award, and the 2018 Canton Regional Chamber "20 Under 40" Award.

Perhaps the most fun fact of all is that I appeared as a contestant on ABC's "$100,000 Pyramid" in 2018, with host Michael Strahan, and celebrity partners Rita Moreno and Justina Machado.

If you spend any amount of time on this blog, you can easily deduce that my interests are all across the board, and they include: running (I spend way too much money on race entry fees), hiking, biking, rock climbing, boating, lifting weights, tattoos, zip lining, canoeing, photography, cooking, board games, swimming, and the occasional skydive! For the most part, I do not enjoy television, feet, bees, or cats. And mustard. I hate mustard.

Aside from writing and adventuring, I love to spend time with family (including my 2 nieces and my nephew), friends (from across the state and world), and of course my dog Slider. I also enjoy meeting new people, consuming caffeine, and working out. I'm the kinda guy who likes to stay in on a random Saturday and go out on a random Tuesday.

If you can relate, get to know me on my personal Twitter handle @MichaelJonEvans and let's go grab a coffee or scale a rock wall!
